WILL STEWART, FOUNDER
Mr. Stewart is a Founding General Partner of APV Technology Partners Funds I, II, and III APV-TP) and is also the Founder and Chairman of Asia Pacific Ventures (APV).
Asia Pacific Ventures: Mr. Stewart founded Asia Pacific Ventures (APV) in 1990. As Founder and Chairman of Asia Pacific Ventures, Mr. Stewart has directly worked with over (120) U.S. and Asia-based high technology companies acting as a strategic business development advisor, raising more than $3 billion in equity, debt and joint venture financing over the past (15) years. Companies include Fortune 500 and Global 1000 companies such as Fujitsu, Toshiba, SONY, NTT, NEC, Itochu, Mitsui, as well as Lexmark, Adaptec, Claria, Eclipse, Intuit, and AST (initiating and negotiating the $392M AST merger with Samsung) and many others. As well, Mr. Stewart has played a central role in creating, negotiating, and structuring business and technology partnerships in Japan and Asia with Silicon Valley and U.S. based venture backed IT start-ups such as Intuit, RSA, Verisign, Red Hat, Certicom, Lexar Media, Rational, Puma, Proxim, and over (75) others.
APV Technology Partners: Mr. Stewart is the Founding General Partner of APV Technology Partners (APV TP) I, II & III which are early stage IT-focused venture capital funds with over $200 million under management. Since 1995, Mr. Stewart has applied his skill set, experience, and global contacts in focusing on early stage IT investing for APV Technology Partners. Mr. Stewart is currently a Director on the Board(s) of SiliconStor (www.siliconstor.com), JiWire (www.jiwire.com), Q2 Labs (www.q2labs.com) Claria (www.claria.com), SoonR (www.soonr.com), Authentium (www.authentium.com), and former Director of Lexar Media (NASDAQ: LEXR), Okena, Inc. (acquired by Cisco), and SecureTax (acquired by Intuit). Other past APV TP investments in which Mr. Stewart has played a key role is securing additional investors and business partners include WebTV (Sold to Microsoft), Fatbrain.com (Sold to Barnes and Noble), Sharewave (Sold to Cirrus Logic), SecureTax.com (Sold to Intuit), iPass, STSN, Packet Engines (Sold to Alcatel) and Versata (acquired by Triology). In addition, Mr. Stewart has extensive global contacts and has played a significant role in raising the majority of the investor funds for APV TP I, II, and III. Prior to founding Asia Pacific Ventures in 1990, from 1983-1990, Mr. Stewart worked at NEC and was the first U.S. Executive transferred to NEC Headquarters in Tokyo in 1995. Mr. Stewart was involved in the global corporate planning of NEC’s Computer and Communications (C&C) market expansion and systems integration throughout the world. Mr. Stewart has a BA in Economics from St. Anselm College, N.H., where he is also on the Board of Trustees. In addition, he has an MBA in Finance from Suffolk University, Boston, MA.
Mr. Stewart is both an investor and Chairman of Mezzanine Capital based in Menlo Park, CA. Mezzanine Capital specializes in providing debt and equity financing to venture backed IT companies. Mr. Stewart is also a co-Founder and Managing Director of the Mezzanine Capital Sakura Fund which provides equity financing to the Mezzanine Capital portfolio of companies.
